Handmade, slab-built box made of red stoneware and finished with iron oxide on the outside giving it a dark rusty red color with dark gray metallic tones. This finish is not a true glaze, therefore the stoneware's texture is readily apparent. The inside base is finished with a light warm gray glaze, which is smooth to the touch. The inside of the lid has been left unglazed and rough to provide a surface to strike matches. This box has been stamped with a textured pattern. This box is excellent for holding matches and would serve well as a salt cellar.
This box/jar is approximately 4.5 inches wide, 3.75 inches deep, and 3 inches tall. It holds approximately 4 oz.
Use strike anywhere matches (not included). Strike on box matches will not work.
Use and care instructions: The base is food safe. Handwashing is strongly recommended as it reduces the wear and tear on the pot and glaze and the iron oxide finish.
